At the crab pond of Liu Tianwu, a large-scale crab farmer in Haiqiao Village, Quantang Town, Wuwei County, a press of the button sends strings of fine bubbles rising through the clear water while crabs climb freely over the fresh green pond weed. Nano-tube microporous aeration, Liu explains, not only improves the water but also promotes crab growth — raising both yield and income.

Nano-tube microporous aeration is a new aquaculture technique. A Roots blower pushes air through piping laid in the pond, and ultra-fine pores along the pipe release it into the water to raise dissolved oxygen. Because the pores are extremely small, pond water cannot enter the pipe when the blower is off. The method overcomes the classic drawbacks of traditional aerators — loud noise, low delivery pressure and limited single-unit coverage — and is simple to install and low in cost. It creates a better environment for the aquatic animals and makes the pond weed grow more vigorously. Jiangyin Zhongxin Machinery can supply the complete aeration package, from the Roots blower to the nano tube.

"Crab yield and quality depend closely on water and weed. When the water improves, the weed naturally improves too — judging by the crabs' growth now, this year's yield and quality will beat last year's," Liu said. He has also fitted a timer to the Roots blower so it switches on and off automatically according to the day's conditions — even at night he sleeps soundly, without worrying about pond oxygen and midnight water refills.
