1. Bottom microporous aeration
This is currently the most popular aeration method in aquaculture. It uses high-density aeration tubing (e.g. 16 × 10 mm or 25 × 12 mm), either tied onto aeration discs placed in the pond or laid directly as a sinking line — for example, running one or two loops around the inside of a canvas pond. This bottom-up approach is called bottom microporous aeration.
The blower is essential to any aeration system. For microporous aeration, the two common choices are ring blowers and three-lobe Roots blowers. Choose based on your working environment and requirements.
2. Surface-layer aeration
This sprays water over the surface using a paddle-wheel (impeller) aerator. Its transfer efficiency is lower than bottom aeration because less oxygen dissolves between air and water, so it is usually combined with microporous aeration.
3. Operating notes
Pair the blower and aeration discs correctly — proper matching improves aeration efficiency. When connecting the main air line, choose the pipe size according to the delivery distance.
